In the dog days of summer, we will tackle a lighter topic. Today we consider the question “are video games art”. Part of the problem is people miss that different new things are very much art forms, and we should consider these new sectors as mostly mundane but a few can transcend their peers and become art. Think about music videos in the ‘80s or even social media posts in the current era. While we note the limitations and problems, we use a specific video game as an example that yes, it is possible for a game to transcend the format and be a work of art. Today we review and discuss the game Hollow Knight.
