This week’s episode covers the slowly bubbling public pension crisis that US states face. This is a problem for both blue and red states. We cover the state of unions both private and public and use stats to show how the much talked about union vote is now mostly a public sector union vote. We discuss the history of this recent phenomenon and the pain states face. Public sector unions were a latecomer to the municipal budget game, and have set cities and states on a death race to see who goes bust first. Pensions are the big issue but the entire idea of collective bargaining for immovable employees is a concern. We highlight multiple states, both blue and red, and speculate on the resolution.
